Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

Entrusting your car to someone is a big decision. Here are the questions we hear most. If yours is not here, just ask.

Pricing and payments

How much does a restoration cost?

Every car is different, so we do not quote a number before we have seen it. We would rather understand your budget and show you what it can achieve. Send us a few photos through the estimate form to get started.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

No. Too many shops take a deposit and then let cars sit for weeks or months, so we stopped taking deposits. We charge per hour for the work we actually do, and we invoice at the end of every week.

Why do you charge per hour?

Because with classic cars, every half hour job is just a broken bolt away from a three hour problem, and we can never know for sure what we are getting into. Charging per hour means you pay for the time your car really needs, nothing more.

How does billing work?

We usually ask for a card on file and email you an invoice every Friday. We charge the card the following Tuesday, which gives you four days to look over the invoice and talk to us about it if you need to. Weekly invoices mean no big surprise at the end of the project, and as soon as a payment comes in, we keep working.

Working with us

What cars do you work on?

Our area of expertise is late 1950s cars, especially MOPAR and Cadillac, but we work on any classic car our customers bring us. Classic cars mostly work on the same principles, so the hard part is usually finding the right parts, and that is something we are very good at. Besides American classics, we also work on European classics, mainly German, French, British and Italian.

I have a project but I do not know where to start.

That is normal. Tell us about the car and what you would like, and we will help you figure out the right first step and a plan that fits your budget.

How will I know how my car is doing?

You get at least one update every week, with photos, whether we need a decision from you or not, and we contact you as soon as something comes up. You stay in control of what is done, and you can call us any time.

Can I visit my car while it is in the shop?

Yes. Please call ahead so someone is available to walk you through the progress.

Which shop should I go to?

Our Phoenix and Tucson shops handle restoration and mechanical work. Body and paint is done at Copperstate Auto Body and Paint in Phoenix. If you are not sure, call us and we will tell you.

Out of state owners

Can you work on my car if I live outside Arizona?

Yes. Many of our projects start with photos and a phone or video call, and you get at least one update every week, with photos, while we work.

How does transport work?

You choose. We can arrange pickup and delivery through our trusted transport partner, so you deal with one point of contact: us. You can also arrange your own transport, or we can help you set it up, for example by recommending a carrier and coordinating the drop off with them. Either way, we do our best to arrange transport at your convenience, or as fast as possible.

How do I approve work from far away?

You stay in full control of what is done on your car. You get at least one update every week, whether we need a decision from you or not, and we contact you as soon as something comes up. We call, text or email you, often all three, with all the information and photos you need to make an informed decision, and we keep a written record of what we suggested and what you approved.

Parts

I am looking for a specific part. Can you help?

Most likely. We have been working with suppliers for close to 40 years, from NOS to reproduction and used parts, and we can often have a part made when it cannot be found.

Do you ship parts?

Yes. We have shipped parts across the country and around the world.

Buying and selling

Can you inspect a car before I buy it?

Yes. A pre purchase inspection tells you what you are really getting and what the car will need.

Can you help me find a specific car?

Tell us what you are looking for. We hear about cars for sale all the time and will let you know when something fits.

Do you sell cars?

No. If you want to sell your car, we will put you in touch with trusted partners who specialize in sales.

Tell us about your car

Send a few photos and what you have in mind. We will get back to you within one business day.
